Paris backs its spooks in Le Monde row

The French government is standing by the country’s security services after they were accused of breaking the law by spying on journalists to protect President Sarkozy. National daily ‘Le Monde’ said it had proof that security officials illegally obtained phone records of reporters investigating a potentially embarrassing funding scandal.
